The 28th Annual Houston Art Car Parade Weekend Rolls up to April 9-12, 2015

What started out as a small caravan of like-minded artists and individuals over a quarter century ago has blossomed into one of the largest and most beloved events in the city of Houston, drawing one of the largest crowds for any free public event all year. 2015 marks the first year that the Houston Art Car Parade will take place on its new permanent date, the second weekend in April – allowing for cooler and a more enjoyable experience for both participants and spectators alike.

Over the past 28 years, the Houston Art Car Parade has received national and international attention as being the premier celebration of self-expression and “the drive to create” – a representation of Houston’s unique entrepreneurial and creative spirit. Continue reading

Houston Center for Photography presents its 2015 Print Auction and Exhibition

quarter page PAPERCITY rev2 FINHOUSTON – Houston Center for Photography presents an intriguing exhibition in their galleries running from January 16 – February 16, 2015, cumulating in an elegant evening of art and fundraising at The Junior League of Houston, Inc. on February 18, 2015. Now in its 31st year, HCP’s annual print exhibition and auction features artists, galleries, and collectors from all over the world contributing premier photographic art that is auctioned to benefit HCP’s operating fund. The exhibition and auction features 74 artists from around the globe including a vast catalog of vintage and contemporary fine-art prints from both mid-career and established photographic artists, collected in both the museum and private sectors.
Artists represented include Elliot Erwitt, Ken Rosenthal, Lisa Robinson, Manuel Alvarez Bravo, Laurie Lambrecht, Renate Aller, S. Gayle Stevens, John A. Chakeres, Mitch Dobrowner, David Fokos, and Jeffrey Becom, among many others. All pieces in the exhibition are available for a “buy-it-now” purchase during the exhibition. Alba Huerta and Josh Martinez Team Up for “Art of the Cocktail at Cherryhurst House”

Alba-Huerta-main-imageHOUSTON – Julep owner Alba Huerta and The Chicken Ranch co-owner Josh Martinez will team up for “Art of the Cocktail at Cherryhurst House,” an evening devoted to blending cocktails, food and art into an immersive experience. It will take place at Cherryhurst House, an innovative new art space in Montrose, on Thursday October 16th from 6:30-9pm.

Limited to an intimate group of 20, participants will have the opportunity to create three different cocktails under Huerta’s instruction that she has chosen specifically for the location, including a special Cherryhurst Cobbler. Continue reading

Society for the Performing Arts to bring Malaysian Artists to Houston

ALL-LINE-by-Jay-Ismail_800x480Houston, TX – Society for the Performing Arts (SPA), Houston’s leading performing arts presenter, is announcing a partnership with Arts Midwest and the Doris Duke Foundation for Islamic Art to bring the international program Caravanserai: A Place Where Cultures Meet to Houston during the 2014-15 season. This program began in 2010 as an effort to establish a greater understanding between American and Muslim societies. Houston is one of four cities selected to host the fourth season of Caravanserai, featuring dynamic performance artists, filmmakers and musicians from Malaysia. The other host locations include the Piney Woods Fine Arts Association in Crockett, Texas; the Rialto Center for the Arts at Georgia State University in Atlanta; and the University of Florida Performing Arts in Gainesville.
