The 28th Annual Houston Art Car Parade Weekend Rolls up to April 9-12, 2015

What started out as a small caravan of like-minded artists and individuals over a quarter century ago has blossomed into one of the largest and most beloved events in the city of Houston, drawing one of the largest crowds for any free public event all year. 2015 marks the first year that the Houston Art Car Parade will take place on its new permanent date, the second weekend in April – allowing for cooler and a more enjoyable experience for both participants and spectators alike.

Over the past 28 years, the Houston Art Car Parade has received national and international attention as being the premier celebration of self-expression and “the drive to create” – a representation of Houston’s unique entrepreneurial and creative spirit. Continue reading

The Orange Show Announces New Date for the 28th Annual Houston Art Car Parade

The Fruitmobile by Jackie HarrisHOUSTON The Orange Show Center for Visionary Art, producers of the annual Houston Art Car Parade Weekend, announced today that the world-famous celebration of mobile masterpieces has received a new set of dates that are sure to please artists and audiences alike due to its generally cooler and less humid conditions. The 2015 Houston Art Car Parade will take place on Saturday, April 11th – with future Houston Art Car Parades taking place on the second weekend of April.

“Securing this date in April for the Houston Art Car Parade is a dream come true. To be able to present the parade then will allow for a greater audience including those who could not or would not brave the heat in May,” said Don Mafrige, Jr., Orange Show Center for Visionary Art Board President-Elect and Chairman of Houston Art Car Weekend. 6th Annual MenilFest to take place Saturday May 3

Back for the sixth year, now with a much shorter name (formerly called the Menil Community Arts Festival and Houston Indie Book Fest), MenilFest takes over the Menil Campus for an extraordinary day of FREE art and entertainment on Saturday, May 3, from 11AM to 6PM (rain or shine). Highlighting the diversity of the Menil neighborhood arts community, the festival will include musical performances, spoken word, Chakra tuning, literature, and visual art, all taking place on the Menil Collection lawn and the Menil Bookstore deck, as well as the Rothko Chapel and Houston Center for Photography.

Mayor Annise Parker to be Grand Marshal of 2014 Houston Art Car Parade

mayorparker150x225Houston, TX aka Art Car Capital of the World – Leading a weekend filled with exciting events May 8-10, 2014, the Orange Show Center for Visionary Art today announced that Mayor Annise Parker will be Grand Marshal of the Houston Art Car Parade, honoring her for her two decades of dedication to Houston and the strides that she has made in helping the city to become a world-class arts and culture destination during her terms as Mayor. During her years of service to the community, Mayor Parker has shown great support for civic events and the arts, including the Houston Art Car Parade, and has contributed to the growth of the creative economy. Mayor Parker will be riding with her family in the lead entry of the parade: a fantastic float that debuted at the Thanksgiving Day Parade in 2013 built by Houston Art Car Klub, depicting the Houston skyline and several of Houston’s iconic art cars.
